Death is Life: Introducing Zion Art Studio and The Ofrenda

Written by Zion Art Studio
In November 2021, Zion Art Studio joined us remotely for The Ofrenda Gathering to generously share an insight into their practice. In this short video which was screened at the event, founder of Zion Art Studio Marco Medina unpacks the long-term International collaboration between Zion and Leeds-based collective The Grief Series. Emphasising how the ethos of Day of the Dead (Día de Muertos) has been an integral part of this transatlantic project, The Ofrenda shines a light on the beautifully diverse ways to remember and celebrate those we have loved and lost.
“We’ve been working with Zion since 2017 and through the longevity of this collaboration there has really been space for us to dig deep into our cultural remembrance rituals and create artworks that fuse Leeds and Mexico City in a nuanced and playful way.”
Ellie Harrison, Artistic Director of The Grief Series
