Bridging experimental music and operatic performance, South African artist Desire Marea is joined by a four-piece band at Left Bank Leeds.

Orchestral, ceremonial, divine – this concert set in Left Bank’s stunning Grade II* listed building is an experience not to be missed.

Desire’s 2023 album On the Romance of Being was album of the week at The Quietus and a New Music Fix record at BBC Radio 6 Music.

The album celebrates the communal, ceremonial and healing qualities of music, sonically taking in post-gospel, spiritual jazz and the ancient music of the Nguni and Ndau peoples.

Desire’s forthcoming EP The Baddies Of Isandlwana brings together an infusion of sounds that dominate nightlife in South Africa, such as gqom, amapiano and Afrobeat.

Traversing electronic genres, Desire has drawn fans from across the globe, including Grace Jones, who recently invited Desire to perform at her Meltdown Festival at London’s Southbank Centre.

The line-up also includes Leeds DJ LUSCIOUS, serving relentless euphoria and breakneck percussion, and marjai, weaving global drum sonics with a DIY ethos.
