JOIN THE COLLECTIVE – YOUNG CURATORS CALL-OUT

We are looking for young people aged 16-21 across the Leeds City Region who are interested in creativity, influencing change and decision-making. A cohort of 6 young curators will learn about different models of creating live performance and events, exchange with artists from across the globe, and come up with a brand new project idea for the Transform festival.

Transform is an international performance festival based in Leeds. We are a creative company nurturing new performance and reimagining what theatre can be. Our focus is bringing bold, brave, vivid and socially-conscious performance to the Leeds City Region and beyond.

Over the coming years, we want to invite younger people across the Leeds City Region to join us in imagining what our festivals can look like. We will be releasing a number of opportunities for younger people to be part of creating bold performance alongside artists from across the globe. We will support a collective of younger people to join us in creating extraordinary creative projects and festivals.

This opportunity is one of the first we are announcing, aimed at those aged 16-21 across the Leeds City Region who are interested in creativity, influencing change and decision-making.

WHAT IS A CURATOR?

The origination of the word curator means ‘someone who cares for’.

At Transform, we think a curator is someone whose job it is to be curious about new ideas, projects and artists. We see a curator as somebody who initiates (and cares for) creative projects.

We are now looking for 6 ‘young curators’ to join a collective and work with Transform over the coming months. Could this be you?

  • Are you aged 16-21 and living in the Leeds City Region?
  • Are you excited by live performance (eg theatre, performance, live art, music/spoken word?)
  • Do you want to discuss and debate ideas that matter to you, your city and the world?
  • Do you want to have a go at kickstarting creative projects that enable other younger people across the region to express themselves?

WHAT WILL I DO ON THIS PROJECT?

You will form part of a cohort of 6 young curators and take part in sessions and workshops with the Transform team. You will learn about different models of creating live performance and events, and discuss the things that matter to you.

With the support of the Transform team, you will be introduced to different artists and creatives from across the world (some online, some in person) and come up with an idea for a brand-new performance or event that speaks to you. You will then be involved in supporting the realisation of this creative project as part of the Transform 21-22 festival.

You will:

  • Exchange ideas and explore your creativity
  • Meet artists from around the world
  • Dream up a concept for an exciting live performance or event that other young people can be involved in
  • Learn more about what goes in to realising creative projects and events

WHAT IS THE TIME COMMITMENT?

The project will launch with an introductory session on Saturday 6 November from 10am-3pm.

There will then be a weekly Wednesday session from 6pm-8pm, from Wednesday 10 November until Wednesday 15 December .

Sessions will be held at Quarry Hill Campus, Leeds City College, Leeds, LS2 7BS.

From the New Year, there will be further opportunities to stay involved in the programme, looking ahead towards the creation of a new performance or event in March/April 2022.

In return for your time, we will provide transport to sessions, food and hospitality. Any access support or translation requirements will be organised.
