A global snapshot between kitsch, apocalypse and East meets West.
Tianzhuo Chen’s dark pop opera combines quotations from pop, folklore, corporate identity and social media. In An Atypical Brain Damage, big city fashion arrogance goes side by side with the camouflage jackets of Chinese rice-growers. An ecstatic and immersive spectacle that is part club, part performance, part culture clash.
One of the most exciting and controversial artists of his time, Tianzhuo Chen’s work is at the edges of visual and performance art, and has travelled everywhere from Vienna Festival to Palais de Tokyo. This is the first presentation of Chen’s work in Leeds, the city where his artistic career began.
Secret location revealed – In an exciting takeover, An Atypical Brain Damage will be hosted in an epic warehouse space at Canal Mills, Leeds.
