“Urgent and of the moment.”
Transform 17 was our boldest festival yet, and our very first citywide, international edition. Coursing through theatres, arts venues and outdoor spaces, Transform 17 took place across eight Leeds venues and explored everything from activism, community collaboration, the digital age, gender politics, and the future of Europe.
The festival featured the world premiere of major outdoor show The Darkest Corners by RashDash, alongside new works and projects by Javaad Alipoor, Grace Surman and Selina Thompson.
Transform 17 also presented UK premieres by international artists El Conde de Torrefiel, machina eX and Florentina Holzinger & Vincent Riebeek. Live Art Bistro were commissioned to create our closing party, Eurotopia, an audio visual spectacle. Each day there were conversations, events and celebrations at our Festival Centre and across the city.
“Offers an alternative take on what theatre can do.”
“Celebrate the Transform Festival’s outward-looking, forward-thinking and variegated offering this year.”
Transform 17 was produced by Transform, in partnership with West Yorkshire Playhouse and citywide organisations. Supported using public funding from the National Lottery through Arts Council England and by Leeds 2023, Leeds BID, Foyle Foundation, Goethe-Institut and Leeds Beckett Performing Arts
