“Smashing the mirror of comfy, white, middle class theatre, to reveal the wide and fractious world behind it.”
Transform 15 was a weekend of works in progress and special events, marking the evolution of Transform as an independent, citywide and international organisation. Across one weekend in April 2015, the programme featured film screenings, workshops, feasting, music and festivities, whilst local and international artists spent time exploring new projects planned to culminate in future Transform Festivals.
Highlights included a residency between artists from West Yorkshire and those from countries including Lebanon, Belgium, German and Italy. A ‘Feast’ event explored the question ‘what does it mean to be local & global in 2015 & beyond?’ featuring speakers including Arthur France, founder of Leeds West Indian Carnival, and Lucy Neal, co-founder of LIFT. The Transform Party presented bands, DJ’s and performance artists from across the city, whilst works in progress showings of future Transform productions were presented by Chris Goode & Company, RashDash, Akeim Buck, Heather Christian & the Arbornauts, Invisible Flock and Frank Willens.
“The successful and much loved festival of theatre arts is expanding beyond the walls of the West Yorkshire Playhouse and indeed Leeds’ city limits to the wider world”
